I Believe There Is Biblical Explanation Of Satan's Origin

Jehovah God is self-contained, lacking nothing. He created hundreds of millions of spirit sons and not one could add anything to his knowledge or contribute some desirable quality of emotion or personality that He did not already possess in superior degree.
Ro 11:33+34 O the depth of the riches of both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgements and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of God? Or who hath been his counsellor?(King James Bible)
Isa 40:13 Who hath directed the spirit of God or being his counsellor hath taught him?(King James Bible)

The one we call satan was one of these spirit sons and not some deity in his own right that could rightly challenge Jehovah Gods sovereignty. On the contrary. he showed contempt for Gods love and brought reproach on his name and cruel suffering to other spirit sons of God as well as to all mankind. Such a course in any of Gods sons makes him sad.
Ps 78:40 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness and grieve him in the desert!(King James Bible)

Not being creatures that marry and reproduce their own kind, the angels were individually created by Jehovah through his firstborn .
Pro 8:22, 23+30 God possessed me in the beginning or his way before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting from the beginning or ever the earth was. Then I was by him and I was daily his delight rejoicing always before him.(King James Bible)
Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way. The earliest of his achievements of long ago. From ancient times I was installed. From the start and from times earlier than the earth. Then I was beside him as a master worker. I was the one he was especially fond of day by day. I rejoiced before him all the time.(New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures)
Rev.3:14........These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.(King James Bible)
Col.1:14-17 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by him, and for him. And he is before all things and by him all things consist.(King James Bible)
Joh 1:2+3 The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him and without him was not any thing made that was made.(King James Bible)

The angels were created long before mans appearance.
Job 38:4-7 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it? When the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?(King James Bible)

Like man, angels are free moral agents, with the power of personal choice between right and wrong.
Gen 6:2,4 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair and they took them wives of all which they chose.......There were giants in the earth in those days and also after that when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men and they bare to them. The same became mighty men which were of old. Men of renown.(King James Bible)
2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned but cast them down and delivered them into chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment.(King James Bible)
We all sin by personal choice.
By personal choice the one called satan rebelled as did those who followed him.

All of Jehovahs works are perfect; he is not the author of unrighteousness; so he did not create anyone wicked.
Duet. 32:4 He is the Rock. His works is perfect for all his ways are judgment. A God of truth and without iniquity. Just and right is he.(King James Bible)
Ps 5:4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness. Neither shall evil dwell with thee.(King James Bible)

The one who became satan was originally a perfect spirit of God and like all other angels he was created individually long before the creation of the earth and man.

When saying that the devil did not stand fast in the truth Jesus indicated that at one time that one was in the truth.
Joh 8:44 .....He was a murderer from the beginning(of his sinning) and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie he speaketh of his own(sin) for he is a liar and the father of it.(King James Bible)
.....That one was a murderer when he began(his deceit) and he did not stand fast in the truth because truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie he speaks according to his own disposition because he is a liar and the father of the lie.(New World translation of the Holy Scriptures)
Gen. 3:4+5 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die for god doth know that in the day ye eat thereof then your eyes shall be opened and ye shall be as gods knowing good and evil.(King James Bible)

But, as is true of all of Gods intelligent creatures, this spirit was endowed with free will. He abused his freedom of choice, allowed feelings of self-importance to develop in his heart, began to crave worship that belonged only to God, and so enticed Adam and Eve to listen to him rather than obey God.
Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired(before satan pointed this out to her she did not desire it but obeyed God) to make one wise she took of the fruit thereof and did eat and gave also unto her husband with her and he did eat.(King James Bible)

Thus, by his course of action he made himself satan, which means resister and adversary.
Jas 1:14+15 But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived it bringeth forth sin and sin when it is finished bringeth forth death.(King James Bible)

I have tried to be as concise as I can and hope you will be like the Boreans taking up the study and comparing the Scriptures for yourselves.
I hope this aids your study and understanding.
Love Katidid.

What Is The Origin Of The Trinity Doctrine?

The New Encyclopoedia Britannica says: Neither the word trinity, nor the explicit doctrine as such, appears in the NT, nor did Jesus and his followers intend to contradict the Shema in the OT: Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord (Deut. 6:4).....The doctrine developed gradually over several centuries and through many controversies.....By the end of the 4th century...the doctrine of the trinity took substantially the form it has maintained ever since." - (1976), Micropaedia, Vol. X, p. 126.

The New Catholic Encyclopedia states: The formulation one God in three Persons was not solidly established, certainly not fully assimilated into christian life and its profession of faith, prior to the end of the 4th century. But it is precisely this formulation that has first claim to the title the Trinitarian dogma. Among the Apostolic Fathers, there had been nothing even remotely approaching such a mentality or perspective. - (1976), Vol. XIV, p. 299.

In The Encyclopedia Americana we read: Christianity derived from Judaism and Judaism was strictly Unitarian(believing that God is one person). The road which led from Jerusalem to Nicea was scarcely a straight one. 4th century trinitarianism did not reflect accurately early Christian teaching regarding the nature of God; it was, on the contrary, a deviation from this teaching." - (1956), Vol. XXVII, p. 294L.

According to the Nouveau Dictionaire Universel, The Platonic trinity, itself merely a rearrangement of older trinities dating back to earlier peoples, appears to be the rational philosophic trinity of attribute that gave birth to the three hypostases or divine persons taught by the churches of christendom......The Greek philosophers(Plato, forth century BCE) conception of the divine trinity....can be found in all the ancient (pagan) religions. - (Paris, 1865-1870), edited by M. Lachatre, Vol. 2, p. 1467.

John L. McKenzie, S.J., in his Dictionary of the Bible, says: The trinity of persons within the unity of nature is defined in terms of person and nature which are Greek philosophical terms; actually the terms do not appear in the Bible. The trinitarian definitions arose as the result of long controversies in which these terms and others such as essence and substance were erroneously applied to God by some theologians. - (New York, 1965), p. 899.

If the is equal to the Father, how is it that the Father knows things that the does not?
If it is true only regarding Jesus human nature, why does the Holy Spirit not know?
Psalm 83:18(King James Bible) That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the Earth.
John 4:23 + 24 (King James Bible) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

A person who is seeking to know the truth about God is not going to search the Bible hoping to find a text that he can construe as fitting what he already believes. He wants to know what Gods Word itself says. He may find some texts that he feels can be read in more than one way, but when these are compared with other Biblical statements on the same subject their meaning will become clear. It should be noted at the outset that most of the texts used as proof of the trinity actually mention only tow persons, not three; so even if the trinitarian explanation of the texts were correct, these would not prove that the Bible teaches the trinity.

If you cling to the belief in the trinity you are in a very dangerous position. The evidence is indisputable that the dogma of the trinity is not found in the Bible nor is it in harmony with what the Bible teaches. It grossly misrepresents the true God. Jesus made it clear that those whose worship is not in truth and not in harmony with the truth set out in Gods own word are not true worshippers. To Jewish religious leader of the first century, Jesus said - For the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God....and...well did Isaiah prophesy of you when he said This people honors me with their lips but their heart is far from me and in vain do they worship me. Teaching as doctrines the precepts of me.(Matthew 15:6-9 RS). That applies with equal force to those in christendom today who advocate human traditions in preference to the clear truths of the Bible.
Regarding the trinity, the Athanasian Creed(in English) says that its members are incomprehensible and teachers of the doctrine often state that is is a mystery. Obviously such a trinitarian god is not the one that Jesus had in mind when he said...We worship what we know.(John 4:22, RS)
Do you really know the god you worship?

SOUL

Definition: In the Bible; soul; is translated from the Hebrew nephesh and the Greek psykhe. Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys.

What Does the Bible Say That Helps Us To Understand What The Soul Is?

Genesis 2:Seven: "Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of the dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul."
(Notice that this does not say that man was given a soul but that he became a soul, a living person.)
(The part of the Hebrew word here rendered 'soul' is nephesh. KJ, AS and Dy agree with that rendering. RS, JB, NAB read 'being'. NE says 'creature.' Kx reads 'person'.)

Genesis 9:5: "Besides that, your blood of your souls(or, 'lives'; Hebrew, from nephesh) shall I ask back."
(Here the soul is said to have blood.)

Joshua 11:11: "They went striking every soul(Hebrew, nephesh) that was in it with the edge of the sword."
(The soul here is shown to be something that can be touched by the sword, so these souls could not have been spirits.)

1 Cor. 15:45: 'It is even so written: "The first man Adam became a living soul." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
(So the Christian Greek Scriptures agree with the Hebrew Scriptures as to what the soul is.)
(The Greek word here translated 'soul' is the accusative case of psykhe. KJ, AS, Dy, JB, NAB and Kx also read 'soul'. RS, NE and TEV say 'being'.)

1Peter 3:20: "In Noah;s days....a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water."
(The Greek word here translated 'souls' is psykhai, the plural form of psykhe. KJ, AS, Dy and Kx also read 'soul'. JB and TEV say 'people'. RS, NE and NAB use 'persons'.)

Where Does The Bible Say That animals Are Souls?

Genesis 1:20, 21, 24 + 25: "God went on to say: 'Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls(nephesh)....'And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind.....And God went on to say: 'Let the earth put forth living souls according to their kinds....' And God proceeded to make the wild beast of the earth according to its kind and the domestic animal according to its kind and every moving animal of the ground according to its kind."

Lev. 24:17 + 18: "In case a man strikes any soul(nephesh) of mankind fatally, he should be put to death without fail. And the fatal striker of the soul(nephesh) of a domestic animal should make compensation for it, soul for soul."
(Notice that the same Hebrew word for soul is applied to both mankind and animals.)

Rev. 16:3: "It became blood as of a dead man, and every living soul died, yes, the things in the sea."
(Thus the Christian Greek Scriptures also show animals to be souls.)
(In Greek the word here is psykhe. KJ, AS and Dy render it 'soul'. Some translators use the term 'creature' or 'thing'.)

Do Scholars Acknowledge What The Bible Says The Soul Is?

"There is no division of body and soul in the OT. The term nephesh, though translated by the word 'soul', never means soul as distinct form the body or the individual person...The term psykhe is the NT word corresponding with nephesh. It can mean the principle of life, life itself or the living being"
New Catholic Encyclopedia(1967), Vol XIII, pp. 449 +450.

"The Hebrew term for 'soul'(nephesh, that which breathes) was used by Moses.....,signifying an 'animated being' and applicable equally to nonhuman beings....NT usage of psykhe was comparable to nephesh".
The New Encyclopedia Britannica(1976), Macropaedia, Vol. 15, p.152.

"The belief that the soul continues its existence after the dissolution of the body is a matter of philosophical or theological speculation rather than of simple faith, and is accordingly nowhere expressly taught in Holy Scripture."
The Jewish Encyclopoedia(1910), Vol. VI. p. 564.

Can The Human Soul Die?

Ezekiel 18:4: "Look! All the souls - to me they belong, As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the - to me they belong. The soul that is sinning - it itself will die."
(Hebrew reads "the nephesh." KJ, AS, RS, Ne and Dy render it 'the soul'. Some translations say 'the man' or 'the person'.)

Matthew 10:28: "Do not become fearful of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul(or life); but rather be in fear of him that can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna".
(The Greek has the accusative case of psykhe. KJ, AS, RS, NE, TEV, Dy, JB and NAB all render it 'soul'.)

Acts 3:23: Indeed, any soul(psykhe) that does not listen to that Prophet will be completely destroyed from among the people."

So, you can see from the Scriptures that what many people believe about the soul being a separated and immortal entity that survives after a person dies is not supported by the Bible teachings.
I hope this aids understanding and helps clear up a common misconception.

"Why Mankind Needs A Ransom"

The Hebrew word for Ransom means to cover so Jehovah covers our sin by Jesus Christ.
This being the central doctrine of Christianity.
The foundation of our hope for everlasting life.

Romans 5:12 + 13 That is why, just through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned;

Adam;s sin brought corruption and satan;s rule to all mankind.
Such a cruelty. Such short-sightedness.

Happily, God foresaw the way to pay the necessary ransom for our kidnapping into sin through the lies and deception of satan.

1 Timothy 2:5+6 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all - this is what is to be witnessed to at its own particular times.

Hebrews 9 explains the illustration that was the the first Tent constructed under the Mosaic Law, its food, drink and various baptisms that were requirements pertaining to the flesh and how it pointed to a far greater and more perfect Tent not made with hands and goes on further to say...

Hebrews 9:12 -14 He(Jesus) entered, no, not with the blood of goats and of young bulls, but with his own blood, once for all time into the holy place and obtained an everlasting deliverance for us. For if the blood of goats and of bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who have been defiled sanctifies to the extent of cleanness of the flesh, how much more will the blood of the Christ, who through an everlasting spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works that we may render sacred service to the living God?

No animal;s blood could possibly be a corresponding ransom for Adam;s sin nor could an imperfect sacrifice cover the sin of the perfect man(before he sinned).

Such is the gift that God gives us imperfect human beings.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 1:Seven By means of Him(Jesus) we have the release by ransom through the blood of that one, yes, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His(Jehovah;s) undeserved kindness.

Hallelujah(Praise Jehovah All You People)

'God' & 'Father' Are Not Distinctive As Names Of The One True Living God

The title 'God' is neither personal nor distinctive(one can even make a god of his belly: Php 3:19). In the Hebrew Scriptures the same word (Elohim) is applied to Jehovah, the true God, and also to false gods, such as the Philitine god Dagon (Jg 16:23, 24; 1Sa 5: 7) and the Assyrian god Nisrock (2Ki 19:37). For a Hevrew to tell a Philistine or an Assyrian that he worshiped 'God' (Elohim) would obviously not have sufficed to identify the Person to whom his worship went.
In its articles on Jehovah, The Imperial Bible Dictionary nicely illustrates the difference between 'Elohim' (God) and Jehovah. Of the name Jehovah, it says: "It is everywhere a proper name, denoting the personal God and him only; whereas 'Elohim' partakes more of the character of a common noun, denoting usually, indeed, but not necessarily nor uniformly, the Supreme....The Hebrew may say the Elohim, the true God, in opposition to all false gods; but he never says the Jehovah, for Jehovah is the name of the true God only. He says again and again my God....; but never my Jehovah, for when he says my God, he means Jehovah. He speaks of the God of Israel, but never of the Jehovah of Israel, for there is not other Jehovah. He speaks of the living God, but never of the living Jehovah, for he cannot conceive of Jehovah as other than living." Edited by P. Fairbairn, London, 1874, Vol 1, p. 856.
The same is true of the Greek term for God, Theos. It was applied alike to the true God and to such pagan gods as Zeus and Hermes (Roman Jupiter and Mercury). (Compare Ac 14:11-15) Presenting the true situation are Paul's words at 1 Cor 8:4-6: "For even though there are those who are called 'gods', whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many 'gods' and many 'lords', there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him". The belief in numerous gods, which makes essential that the True God be distinguished from such, has continued even into this 20th centuary.
Paul's reference to 'God the Father' does not mean that the true God's name is 'Father', for the designation 'father' applies as well to every human male parent and describes men in other relationships. (Ro 4:11, 16; 1Cor 4:15) The Messiah is given the title 'Eternal Father'. (Isa 9:6) Jesus called satan the 'father' of certain murderous opposers. (Joh 8:44) The term was also applied to gods of the nations, the Greek god Zeus being represented as the great father god in Homeric poetry. That 'God the Father' has a name, one that is distinct from his 's name, is shown in numerous texts. (Mt 28:19; Rev 3:12; 14:1) Paul knew the personal name of God, Jehovah, as found in the creation account in Genesis, from which Paul quoted in his writings. That name, Jehovah, distinguishes 'God the Father' (compare Isa 64: 8 ), thereby blocking any attempt at merging or blending his identity and person with that of any other to whom the title 'god' or 'father' may be applied.

Should the Name JEHOVAH Appear in the New Testament?
Posted:Jul 23, 2008 3:36 am
Last Updated:Jul 19, 2013 5:56 pm
4190 Views

Does it matter whether God's name appears in the Bible?
God obviously felt so. His name, as represented by the four Hebrew characters known as the Tetragrammaton, appears almost 7,000 times in the original, Hebrew text, of what is commonly called the Old Testament.*
* The Tetragrammaton refers to the four letters, YWWH, that represent God's name in Hebrew. It is commonly translated as Jehovah or Yahweh in English.

Bible scholars acknowledge that God's personal name appears in the Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures. However, many feel that it did not appear in the original Greek manuscripts of the so-called New Testament.

What happens, then, when a writer of the New Testament quotes passages from the Old Testament in which the Tetragrammaton appears? In these instances, most translators use the word "Lord" rather than God's personal name. The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures does not follow this common practice. It uses the name Jehovah 237 times in the Christian Greek Scriptures, or New Testament.

What problems do Bible translators face when it comes to deciding whether to use God's name in the New Testament?
What basis is there for using God's name in this part of the Holy Scriptures?
And how does the use of God's name in the Bible affect you?

A Translation Problem
The manuscripts of the New Testament that we possess today are not the originals. The original manuscripts written by Matthew, John, Paul, and others were well used, and no doubt they quickly wore out. Hence, copies were made, and when those wore out, further copies were made. Of the thousands of copies of the New Testament in existence today, most were made at least two centuries after the originals were penned. It appears that by that time those copying the manuscripts either replaced the Tetragrammaton with Ku'ri•os or Ky'ri•os, the Greek word for "Lord," or copied from manuscripts where this had been done.

Knowing this, a translator must determine whether there is reasonable evidence that the Tetragrammaton did in fact appear in the original Greek manuscripts. Is there any such proof? Consider the following arguments:
When Jesus quoted the Old Testament or read from it, he used the divine name.
Deut.6
13 Jehovah your God you should fear, and him you should serve, and by his name you should swear. 14 YOU must not walk after other gods, any gods of the peoples who are all around YOU, 15 (for Jehovah your God in your midst is a God exacting exclusive devotion,) for fear the anger of Jehovah your God may blaze against you and he must annihilate you from off the surface of the ground.
16 “YOU must not put Jehovah YOUR God to the test, the way YOU put him to the test at Mas´sah.
Deut.8
3 So he humbled you and let you go hungry and fed you with the manna, which neither you had known nor your fathers had known; in order to make you know that not by bread alone does man live but by every expression of Jehovah’s mouth does man live.
Psalm 110
1 The utterance of Jehovah to my Lord is:
“Sit at my right hand
Until I place your enemies as a stool for your feet.”
2 The rod of your strength Jehovah will send out of Zion, [saying:]
“Go subduing in the midst of your enemies.”
3 Your people will offer themselves willingly on the day of your military force.
In the splendours of holiness, from the womb of the dawn,
You have your company of young men just like dewdrops.
4 Jehovah has sworn (and he will feel no regret):
“You are a priest to time indefinite
According to the manner of Mel•chiz´e•dek!”
5 Jehovah himself at your right hand
Will certainly break kings to pieces on the day of his anger.
6 He will execute judgment among the nations;
He will cause a fullness of dead bodies.
He will certainly break to pieces the head one over a populous land.
7 From the torrent valley in the way he will drink.
That is why he will raise high [his] head
Isaiah61
1 The spirit of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah is upon me, for the reason that Jehovah has anointed me to tell good news to the meek ones. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to those taken captive and the wide opening [of the eyes] even to the prisoners; 2 to proclaim the year of goodwill on the part of Jehovah and the day of vengeance on the part of our God; to comfort all the mourning ones;
Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led by the spirit up into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil.2 After he had fasted forty days and forty nights, then he felt hungry. 3 Also, the Tempter came and said to him: “If you are a of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But in reply he said: “It is written, ‘Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every utterance coming forth through Jehovah’s mouth.’” 5 Then the Devil took him along into the holy city, and he stationed him upon the battlement of the temple 6 and said to him: “If you are a of God, hurl yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will give his angels a charge concerning you, and they will carry you on their hands, that you may at no time strike your foot against a stone.’” 7 Jesus said to him: “Again it is written, ‘You must not put Jehovah your God to the test.’” 8 Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, 9 and he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written, ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’” 11 Then the Devil left him, and, look! angels came and began to minister to him.
Matthew22
41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together Jesus asked them: 42 “What do YOU think about the Christ? Whose is he?” They said to him: “David’s.” 43 He said to them: “How, then, is it that David by inspiration calls him ‘Lord,’ saying, 44 ‘Jehovah said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies beneath your feet”’? 45 If, therefore, David calls him ‘Lord,’ how is he his ?” 46 And nobody was able to say a word in reply to him, nor did anyone dare from that day on to question him any further.
Luke 4
16 And he came to Naz´a•reth, where he had been reared; and, according to his custom on the sabbath day, he entered into the synagogue, and he stood up to read. 17 So the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed him, and he opened the scroll and found the place where it was written: 18 “Jehovah’s spirit is upon me, because he anointed me to declare good news to the poor, he sent me forth to preach a release to the captives and a recovery of sight to the blind, to send the crushed ones away with a release, 19 to preach Jehovah’s acceptable year.” 20 With that he rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were intently fixed upon him. 21 Then he started to say to them: “Today this scripture that YOU just heard is fulfilled.”

In the days of Jesus and his disciples, the Tetragrammaton appeared in copies of the Hebrew text of what is often called the Old Testament, as it still does today. However, for centuries scholars thought that the Tetragrammaton was absent from manuscripts of the Greek Septuagint translation of the Old Testament, as well as from manuscripts of the New Testament. Then in the mid 20th century, something remarkable came to the attention of scholars, some very old fragments of the Greek Septuagint version that existed in Jesus' day had been discovered. Those fragments contain the personal name of God, written in Hebrew characters.

Jesus used God's name and made it known to others. (John 17:6, 1.1,12, 26) Jesus plainly stated, "I have come in the name of my Father." He also stressed that his works were done "in the name of [his] Father." In fact, Jesus' own name means "Jehovah Is Salvation."-John 5:43; 10:25.
The divine name appears in its abbreviated form in the Greek Scriptures. At Revelation 19:1, 3, 4, 6, the divine name is embedded in the expression "Alleluia," or "Hallelujah." This expression literally means "Praise Jah, you people.

The Meaning Of God's Name
Jehovah chose His own name, one rich in meaning. "Jehovah" literally means "He Causes To Become". True, He brought all things into existence, that in itself is an awe-inspiring thought, but is that the point of God's name?

The use of God's divine name is not new. Genesis 4:26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a , and he called his name Enos, then began men to call upon the name of the Lord (King James)

God told Moses the meaning of His name when He said, "I shall prove to be what I shall prove to be"Exodus 3:14(New World)
Many bible translations here read: "I Am that I Am" but the careful rendering in the New World Translation shows that God was not merely affirming His own existence. Rather, He was teaching Moses - and by extension us - what that names implies.

Jehovah would 'prove to be', or cause Himself to become whatever was needed in order to fulfill His promises.
J.B. Rotherham's translation pointedly renders this verse: "I Will Become whatsoever I please". One authority on Biblical Hebrew explains the phrase this way: "Whatever the situation or need, God will 'become' the solution to that need"
Surely that name inspires confidence in God.

Moses and the Israelites learned that Jehovah is true to His name by becoming an unbeatable Military Commander, the Master of all natural elements, a peerless Lawgiver, Judge, Architect, Provider of food and water, Preserver of clothing and footgear and more.

Unquestionably, God wants us to know Him but many people are blinded to the Truth that Jehovah is Sovereign Lord. He has the right to be Ruler of all the Universe owing to the fact that He created everything in existence.

Jehovah is eternal in both direction -past and future- "Even from time indefinite to time indefinite Psalm 90:2 which means that God is permanent and unaffected by the passage of time, even untold billions of years!

Thanks to Neverold for his original article titled “The Names of Our God”. I do not know if this is his work or not nor do I know which translation he used.

This research has served to teach me so much about God and His and their qualities, their personality traits and characteristics and has helped me become more intimate with God.

The translation that I am using is The New World Bible and The King James Bible and if anyone finds any other names or titles for our God or His I would dearly love it if you could email the verse reference, the verse in full and the Bible translation it came from.

I will add those verses or add the title or name if it is another term not used in one of the verses already listed.
Cheers all,
Katididaustralia.

Names of God

“I AM”
“I Will Cause To Be”
“He Causes To Become”
“I Shall Prove To Be What I Shall Prove To Be”

He is God by reason of His creatorship

The Hebrew Tetragrammaton appears 6,828 times in translated Hebrew texts but was dropped from use around the 4 or 5th centuary A.C. due to ‘the traditions of man’. It appears 6,973 times in the New World translation due to changes made in some verses in other translations to read Adonai or Elohim.

Elohim is often used to refer to Jehovah but is also used to describe others such as men, angels and pagan gods and probably means ‘be strong’ but when it is used to describe God it means ‘greatness & majesty, i.e. ‘The Great God’ and it draws attention to Jehovah’s greatness and strength as The Creator.

As late as the fourth centuary C.E., Jerome, the translator of the Latin Vulgate, says in his prologue to the books of Samuel and Kings: “And we find the name of God, the Tetragrammaton in certain Greek volumes even to this day expressed in ancient letters.” In a letter written at Rome, 384 C.E., Jerome states: “The ninth (name of God) is the Tetragrammaton, which they consider (anekphoneton), that is, unspeakable, and it is written with these letters, Iod, He, Vau and He. Certain ignorant ones, because of the similarity of the characters, when they would find it in Greek books, were accustomed to read the Roman letters for PIPI since the characters look very similar.”

The so-called christians then, who “replaced the Tetragrammaton with Kyrios in the Septuagint copies, were not the early disciples of Jesus. They were persons of later centuaries when the foretold apostasy was well developed and had corrupted the purity of the True Christian teaching.

The Hebrew: ‘Eh-yeh’ ‘Asher’ ‘Eh-Yeh’ in some translations is rendered as “I Am That I Am”. However, it is to be noted that the Hebrew verb ha-yah, from which the word ‘Eh-yeh’ is drawn, does not mean simply “be”, rather, it means “become” or “prove to be”. The reference here is not to God’s self-existence but to what he has in mind to become to ward others. Therefore, the proper rendition is “I Shall Prove To Be What I Shall Prove To Be”. This reveals Jehovah as the One who, with progressive action, causes Himself to become the ‘Fulfiller of Promises’. Thus He always brings His purposes to realization. Only the true God could rightly and authentically bear such a name. Knowing Jehovah’s name is something very different from knowing the four letters of the Hebrew text that it is composed of. It is to know by experience that Jehovah really is what His name declares Him to be.

All things relating to God’s person are holy; His personal name is holy and hence it is to be sanctified.
Lev 22:29“And in case YOU should sacrifice a thanksgiving sacrifice to Jehovah, YOU should sacrifice it to gain approval for YOU.
22: 30 On that day it should be eaten. YOU must not leave any of it until morning. I am Jehovah.
22:31And YOU must keep my commandments and do them. I am Jehovah.
22:32And YOU must not profane my holy name, and I must be sanctified in the midst of the sons of Israel. I am Jehovah who is sanctifying YOU,
22:33 the One bringing YOU out of the land of Egypt to prove myself God to YOU. I am Jehovah.”

To sanctify means, “make holy, set apart or hold as sacred,” and therefore not to be used as something common, or ordinary.
Is. 6:3 And this one called to that one and said: “Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah of armies. The fullness of all the earth is his glory.”

Luke 1:49 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies Jehovah,
1:47 and my spirit cannot keep from being overjoyed at God my Saviour;
1:48because he has looked upon the low position of his slave girl. For, look! from now on all generations will pronounce me happy;
1:49 because the powerful One has done great deeds for me and holy is his name;
1:50 and for generations after generations his mercy is upon those who fear him.

Rev. 4:8And as for the four living creatures, each one of them respectively has six wings; round about and underneath they are full of eyes. And they have no rest day and night as they say: “Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is coming.”

Because of the person it represents, Jehovah’s name is fear-inspiring majestic and unreachably high as well as being regarded with awe.
Ps. 99:3Let them laud your name.
Great and fear-inspiring, holy it is.
99:4 And with the strength of a king judgment he has loved.
You yourself have firmly established uprightness.
Judgment and righteousness in Jacob are what you yourself have affected.
99:5 Exalt Jehovah our God and bow down yourselves at his footstool;
He is holy.

Ps. 8:1 O Jehovah our Lord, how majestic your name is in all the earth,
You whose dignity is recounted above the heavens!

Ps.148:13 Let them praise the name of Jehovah, for his name alone is unreachably high. His dignity is above earth and heaven.

Is. 29:22Therefore this is what Jehovah has said to the house of Jacob, he that redeemed Abraham: “Jacob will not now be ashamed, nor will his own face now grow pale;
29:23 for when he sees his , the work of my hands, in the midst of him, they will sanctify my name, and they will certainly sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and the God of Israel they will regard with awe.
29:24 And those who are erring in [their] spirit will actually get to know understanding, and even those who are grumbling will learn instruction.”

The evidence is that the divine name was so regarded until events in the Garden of Eden brought about its profanation as satan brought God’s name and reputation into question. Adam was Jehovah’s human representative and those serving in such a capacity are said to ‘minister in Jehovah’s name’ and ‘speak in His name’
Deut. 18:5For he is the one whom Jehovah your God has chosen out of all your tribes to stand to minister in the name of Jehovah, he and his sons, always.

Deut. 18:18 prophet I shall raise up for them from the midst of their brothers, like you; and I shall indeed put my words in his mouth, and he will certainly speak to them all that I shall command him. 1
18:19And it must occur that the man who will not listen to my words that he will speak in my name, I shall myself require an account from him.

James 5:10 Brothers, take as a pattern of the suffering of evil and the exercising of patience the prophets, who spoke in the name of Jehovah.

Thus while his wife Eve had already profaned Jehovah’s name by her disobedience, Adam’s doing so was an especially reprehensible act of disrespect for the name he represented.
1Sam 15:22 In turn Samuel said: “Does Jehovah have as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Look! To obey is better than a sacrifice, to pay attention than the fat of rams;
15:23 for rebelliousness is the same as the sin of divination, and pushing ahead presumptuously the same as [using] uncanny power and teraphim. Since you have rejected the word of Jehovah, he accordingly rejects you from being king.”

In every respect Jesus Christ was a faithful reflection of the beautiful personality of His Father.
Heb. 1:3 He is the reflection of [his] glory and the exact representation of his very being, and he sustains all things by the word of his power; and after he had made a purification for our sins he sat down on the right hand of the Majesty in lofty places.
1:4 So he has become better than the angels, to the extent that he has inherited a name more excellent than theirs.

Noteworthy is the importance given to names themselves in the Hebrew Scriptures and amoung Semitic peoples. The very frequency of the appearance of the Tetragrammaton attests to its importance to the Bible’s author, whose name it is. Its use throughout the Scriptures far outnumbers that of any of the titles used.

A study of the word ‘name’ in the Old Testament reveals how much it means in Hebrew. The name is not a mere label, but is significant of the real personality of him to whom it belongs. When a person puts his ‘name’ upon a thing or another person the latter comes under his influence and protection. It can mean a person’s reputation or the person himself.
1Sam.25:25 Please, do not let my lord set his heart upon this good-for-nothing man Na´bal, for, as his name is, so is he. Na´bal is his name, and senselessness is with him. As for me your slave girl, I did not see my lord’s young men that you had sent.
25:26 And now, my lord, as Jehovah is living and as your soul is living, Jehovah has held you back from entering into bloodguilt and having your own hand come to your salvation. And now let your enemies and those seeking injury to my lord become like Na´bal.

Ps. 20:1 May Jehovah answer you in the day of distress. May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

Prov. 22:1 A name is to be chosen rather than abundant riches; favour is better than even silver and gold.

1.YHWH = Yahweh = Yahovah

2.JHWH = Jahweh = Jehovah (English translation, other languages say it a different way but they are all based on the Tetragrammaton)
Exodus 3:11 However, Moses said to the [true] God: “Who am I that I should go to Phar´aoh and that I have to bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?”
3:12 To this he said: “Because I shall prove to be with you, and this is the sign for you that it is I who have sent you: After you have brought the people out of Egypt, YOU people will serve the [true] God on this mountain.”
3:13 Nevertheless, Moses said to the [true] God: “Suppose I am now come to the sons of Israel and I do say to them, ‘The God of YOUR forefathers has sent me to YOU,’ and they do say to me, ‘What is his name?’ What shall I say to them?”
3:14 At this God said to Moses: “I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE TO BE.” And he added: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘I SHALL PROVE TO BE has sent me to YOU.’”
3:15 Then God said once more to Moses: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘Jehovah the God of YOUR forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to YOU.’ This is my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generation after generation.

Isaiah 12:4 And in that day YOU will certainly say: “Give thanks to Jehovah, YOU people! Call upon his name. Make known among the peoples his dealings. Make mention that his name is put on high.

Isaiah 42:8“I am Jehovah. That is my name; and to no one else shall I give my own glory, neither my praise to graven images.

Proverbs 18:10 The name of Jehovah is a strong tower. Into it the righteous runs and is given protection.”
*Note: this may be saying that Jehovah has another name and that Jehovah is another title.

3.Jah Jehovah
Is. 12:2 Look! God is my salvation. I shall trust and be in no dread; for Jah Jehovah is my strength and [my] might, and he came to be the salvation of me.”

4.Jah = shortened name i.e., Hallelujah = Praise Jah

34:12 Watch yourself that you do not conclude a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you are going, for fear it may prove itself a snare in your midst.
34:13 But their altars YOU people are to pull down, and their sacred pillars YOU are to shatter, and their sacred poles YOU are to cut down.
34:14 For you must not prostrate yourself to another god, because Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, he is a jealous God;
34:15 for fear that you may conclude a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, as they will certainly have immoral intercourse with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone will be certain to invite you, and you will certainly eat some of his sacrifice.
34:16 Then you will have to take some of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters will be certain to have immoral intercourse with their gods and make your sons have immoral intercourse with their gods.

5:14 To this he said: “No, but I–as prince of the army of Jehovah I have now come.” With that Joshua fell on his face to the earth and prostrated himself and said to him: “What is my lord saying to his servant?”
5:15 In turn the prince of the army of Jehovah said to Joshua: “Draw your sandals from off your feet, because the place on which you are standing is holy.” At once Joshua did so.

87.Reflection Of His Glory, The
Heb. 1:3 He is the reflection of [his] glory and the exact representation of his very being, and he sustains all things by the word of his power; and after he had made a purification for our sins he sat down on the right hand of the Majesty in lofty places. 4 So he has become better than the angels, to the extent that he has inherited a name more excellent than theirs.

Acts 7:52 “Obstinate men and uncircumcised in hearts and ears, YOU are always resisting the holy spirit; as YOUR forefathers did, so YOU do.

2:3And by this we have the knowledge that we have come to know him, namely, if we continue observing his commandments.
2:4 He that says: “I have come to know him,” and yet is not observing his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in this [person].
2:5 But whoever does observe his word, truthfully in this [person] the love of God has been made perfect. By this we have the knowledge that we are in union with him.

15:3 YOU are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to YOU.
15:4 Remain in union with me, and I in union with YOU. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it remains in the vine, in the same way neither can YOU, unless YOU remain in union with me.
15:5 I am the vine, YOU are the branches. He that remains in union with me, and I in union with him, this one bears much fruit; because apart from me YOU can do nothing at all.

It seems to me that monkeys
Could not be much more funky
Than the people who are rappin’
Sayin’ ‘word’ so we are tappin’
A talkin’ and a rhymin’
With a beat and with a mimin’
They just end up beratin’
All that God has bin creatin’!
Say Word
Say Word of Power!

If they took a look around ‘em
To Know they are a drownin’
It’s the Word of Life a weavin’
Our hopes and dreams keep spinnin’
God’s cleavin’ to his chil’ren
His promises awesome fearin’
And the pulse His own is jivin’
So that we can keep on livin’!
Say Word
Say Word of Power!

Isn’t it wonderful how
Astrologers and seers can
Know so much about
Who I am.

Unknown people who
Just need my money to
Deliberate upon and
Read me.

Considering the perplexities of
The depths of my being and
The bubbling away inside
Seething.

If God knows myself
And I’m written in the book
Is it an open page for
Perusal?

What other way is there
To see someone’s future than
By looking at stars in the sky
Shining.

It’s such a mystery to me ‘cause
I’d rather see me reflected in
Budding flower anew to
Glory.
