Finding Hope in Fearful Times   4/6/2010

Finding Hope in Fearful Times

There are fearful times coming to this planet. Please look with me at Luke 21:25. Jesus says that we are headed toward days when people "expire". The word is aposucho 'breath pops out' or 'expires' because of complete fear. We see that in earthquakes, fires, and hurricanes, usually among the elderly with heart attacks. But the ultimate panic attack is coming ...

Defeat Was In The Victory   4/5/2010

Defeat Was In The Victory

were it not for the blood in my heart the temperature of my emotional climate would freeze from the ice in my eyes,

from a frozen tundra the Sun appeared whilst melting my cynical faith in angels and made me believe in saving a lost soul

were it not for the razor edged teeth that held onto the throat of the dove a broken wing could have soared ...

Bible Verses (Corinthians, 13:1-13)   4/5/2010

I may be able to speak the languages of human beings and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell. I may have the gift of inspired preaching; I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have the faith needed to move mountains-but if I have no love, I am nothing. I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be ...

"I AM HE"   3/31/2010

“I Am He”

Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. (John 4:2 6)

We are met together on this Christmas morning to commemorate an event. It is always vital that we should remind ourselves of that, and that is why I, as one who is a thoroughgoing Protestant and even a Puritan, believe in the observance of Christmas Day. We are always so much in danger of forgetting ...

The Satisfaction of the Cross   3/31/2010

"When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied." Isaiah 53:11a (NLT) Devotion: Approximately 600 years before Jesus was sentenced to the cross, the prophet Isaiah foretold of the event. Invite Isaiah's ancient words of prophecy to penetrate your soul today, and prepare your heart for Easter:

Understanding the Cross   3/30/2010

Understanding the Cross What really happened on the cross? Was the death of Jesus a human tragedy whereby a good man was brutally and unfairly slain? Was His death an example of faith, obedience, and self-sacrifice? Was it a ransom paid to the Devil? A victory over the Devil? A manifestation of moral influence? Was the cross an atonement? Did it involve expiation and propitiation for sin? Was it ...

Ephesians 3:19   3/29/2010

Ephesians 3:19 The love of Christ which passeth knowledge. The love of Christ in its sweetness, its fulness, its greatness, its faithfulness, passeth all human comprehension. It is so vast and boundless that, as the swallow but skimmeth the water, and diveth not into its depths, so all ...

Who Would You Have to Become   3/27/2010

Once upon a time, I spent nearly eight months wooing a beautiful woman whom i loved very much, i still do and always will. Somehow there was a very special connection. And we are no longer together. I have discovered that it is possible to love someone and not be with them. It took me a while to be okay with that.

Five Steps to Overcoming Commitment Phobia.   3/27/2010

While I define "commitment phobia" as "an unrealistic fear of making a promise, a pledge or a vow to be a faithful and loyal partner to another person, " many singles may also fear that becoming a committed couple means giving up, or losing, their independence.

It's not uncommon for singles to fear that committing to be a life-long relationship challenges the safety and comfort they ...

John 18:8   3/27/2010

The ruling passion is strong in death. He resigns Himself to the enemy, but He interposes a word of power to set His disciples free. As to Himself, like a sheep before her shearers He is dumb and opened not His mouth, but ...

The Lord's Supper   3/25/2010

The Lord’s Supper

We come now to consider the Lord’s Supper. This, too, has been the subject of great debate and controversy in the Christian Church for a number of centuries, especially since the Protestant Reformation, and great and mighty works have been written on it. It would be easy to go into all that but I have decided not to do so because most of the controversy that has ...

"The Bright Morning Star"   3/23/2010

In the last chapter of the book of Revelation, Jesus calls himself the "bright Morning Star." In ancient times, the morning star was thought of as a herald of the new day, signaling the dawn of hope and joy. The brightest object in the sky aside from the sun and moon, it is a fitting type for Christ, who ushers in a new day for the entire world. When you call on Jesus, the Bright Morning Star, ...

Matthew 26: 39   3/23/2010

Matthew 26:39 And He went a little farther, and fell on His face, and prayed. There are several instructive features in our Saviour's prayer in His hour of trial. It was lonely prayer. He withdrew even from His three favoured disciples. Believer, be much in solitary prayer, especially in times of trial. Family prayer, social prayer, prayer in the Church, will not suffice, these are very precious, ...

"Who do you say that I am?"   3/18/2010

"Who do you say that I am?" (Matthew 16:15) It all comes down to this eventually. In the Greek text the word you has an enormous stress. In fact, the word you really goes at the first of the sentence. It is as if Jesus is saying, "But you who have followed me and have known me from the beginning, who do you say that I am?" It is the greatest question in the entire universe and it is one which ...

Israel in Joshua 9 and 10   3/18/2010

Israel's treaty with Gibeon. Just as all of us tend to be rather gullible when we don't seek the Lord's guidance, the Israelites are deceived by a heathen nation (Josh. 9:3-5). Years later their past comes back to haunt them (II Sam. 21:1-9). Joshua battles five kings and their armies. He prays for a miracle and receives it (Josh. 10:12-13). Verses for Today: The inhabitants of Gibeon . . . did ...
