the new computer program that i used to mathematically extrapolate the rest of 4nk8's face has failed miserably. i see from his new picture that he actually is a very pretty man. he has an esepcially pretty mouth that i can NOT stop thinking about. and that jaw, it puts marlon brando to shame.

i wonder why the hat? is he as bald as i am?

my apologies that i miss-extrapolated that beautiful face 4nk8. too bad that the brain is still so ugly.

i am working on a new hypothesis that he is really fat

solar heat in action

i have posted a lot about producing pop can solar furnaces in this blog, but not really reported on thier utility very much. the truth is that i have gotten some good results, but they fall a little short of sufficient.

i have 5 of these solar furnaces, with styrafoam frames, in the windows of the church, which face south. they are about 3.5 x 3.5 each, with the two bigger ones in the middle a little taller, maybe 3.5 x 4.5. the one in the transom over the door is wider (maybe 5). i have a made in china digital thermometer that records the highs in lows in the church that i leave in the middle of the space.

on extremely sunshiney days, the highs have been in the upper 50s. the highest high i have seen is 59. it depends some on how cold it is outside, but even when it has been zero and lower, i am still in the middle 50s.

this is great because it is totally free heat. i never measured tempatures before i started putting these in, but suffice to say, it was not EVER 50 in there in the winter without a heater. that said, the low temps i am getting are never lower than mid 30s, even in the middle of the night.

overall, i am pleased...it would be nicer if we were getting upper 60 highs, but oh well. this is all the sun is putting out. with the same thermometer on the top of one of the furnaces, i have gotten consistant highs in the upper 140s, with one as high as 149. that is pretty darned hot. i think that part of the problem is that the church is really pretty big (25 x 60) and the heat is sort of wimpy. it is convection heat that just kind of radiates, and it is not getting to the rest of the space. coupled with the fact that the highest temperatures are at the top of the room up against the windows, where it has to fight the outside cold directly up against it.

i am still prowd. i have to supply a little heat to use the church, but not nearly as much as i used to. i am also really happy that i can use the church on a sunny day without any extra heat at all. i just need a sweater sometimes. keeping warmer durring the day also means it needs less heat at night, and that it warms up much faster when i do turn on heat in the evenings.

i am most prowd that i conceived the styrafoam window idea myself. i REALLY researched the web, and i found a few people who put standard wooden frame furnaces near windows, but nobody who used cardboard or styrafoam and put them IN the window. the softer materials made it a LOT easier to build them to fit the spaces needed, and were not only free, but i was recycling. i also had access to a LOT of good styrofoam building materials.

there were a lot of ups and downs, and back to the drawing boards, but i think that i might have accomplished a scientific feat that hasn't been done before. at least, it is not anywhere on the internet. when i started, i had the idea i might be able to manufacture these for production...but now...i don't think they would really sell well. they are really ugly too.

universalism

i have often said that my mind is so open that my brains fall out all the time. lately, for almost the last year, i have been praying for universalism. a lot of my family, and freinds have heard the gospel and reject it. you can't just keep testifying to such people, they will shut you out. the only thing i can do is pray for them and try to live my testimony so that they see god in my life. for some of us, this is harder than others.a LOT of people don't even bother walking the walk, they just try to shove the talk down the throats of others even though thier own lives are not saying the same things.

a famous preecher in the denom that runs the seminary i attended, said "i want to be a universalist, but the bible won't let me." i have kind of run with this quote and tried to nail down any hard and fast requirements for salvation. the bottom line is that there really are none. i mean, is john 3:16 really a REQUIREMENT for salvation?

salvation is a freely given gift from god. as such, can there be requirement? is the blood of god not strong enough to save ALL? did christ only die for SOME? do we suppose to be an elect people?

i don't really have the answers. this is why i pray that universalism is true every day. i DO know that paul (and others) say repeatedly there is NOTHING we can do to earn salvation. I also know that there is a LOT of biblical discussion of judgement. the bible also says repeatedly that the wages of sin is death. then there are the weeping and gnashing of teeth regret references, and other more direct warnings of darkness and destruction.

however, keeping in mind that the rc church had thier fingers ALL over all the current translations, and that they had doctrine to push. and keeping in mind that NONE of the 'requirements' that are put forth are very black and white at all. and keeping in mind the very nature of god and christ.

does it seem like the character of god to not love us quite enough, that he has to let some of us die forever? mostly the stupid or stubborn? the god i know isn't like that?

Mathew 18:12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish."

please join me in my prayers that we ALL be forgiven.

the chicago river (evil slime)

remember ghost busters when there was a river of evil slime flowing under NY and causing all the people to hate each other (even more)? i think that river has moved to chicago. EVERYBODY here is about to crack. it was no better, in fact maybe worse, over the recent holidays.

i have been SO blinded by my own selfish need to explode, that i have neglected to notice that EVERYBODY else is also dangerously close to going rambo right back at me. i kind of learned about the extent of this at a great cost when i lost calvin. the REAL cause of that tragedy was a neighbor in rage. it was also my fault because i had egged him on, and not walked away. because i was focusing on the river of evil myself.

games aside, i really think something is going on. EVERYONE is angry EVERYWHERE. even dorks and cowards have chips on thier shoulders and want to fight about what they see as important. maybe it is just here in the big city, but i don't think so. i think that the american dream has faded quickly and a LOT of its citezens are just REALLY angry about it.

this puppy is a not just another pretty pump. it has a stainless steel grinder in it and is made to run several toilettes at once. it has the power to grind small stuff up and push it uphill to the main sewage. this is what i need to put a toilet in my basement. they make 'kits' for basement toilets that are just a small pump and one toilet for a little less than just this pump. however, i think it makes more sense to get this thing instead and use it for multiple pumping chores.

specifically, it is a better way to handle the laundry water than putting it straight into the sewer. also, i have a plan to make a hose washable potty spot in the 'yard.' that could be drained down into this pump and waste could be whisked away.

i have been working on my basement all winter. the plan is to make it into an independent in-law apartment if my , or friends, need a place to stay. there is a pretty big bedroom in the basement, and that is where my friend charlie stayed for the last year. my friend mike is staying there now. but there is no washroom in the basement and so borders have to use mine, or the one in the church.

so i am putting in a bathroom. i got a really nice shower platform cheap on ebay, and i got a urinal and a sink on craig's list dirt cheap. my roomie mike is a plumber and he is doing the plumbing for rent. he works here at least one full day a week, and sometimes two. most of the plumbing is done. i finished piping the electric in there today and started drywalling the ceiling. it is almost ready.

we are putting a kitchenette in too...but one thing at a time. we ran all the pipe we need there, but we still have to dig a drain out.

i really have not spent much money doing this at all so far. what is going to kill me is the toilet. i have to get a macerating pump and those are expensive. we are going to tie the pump into the gangway as a drain too. that way i can just hose down poop and the like into the pump and out to the sewer. a good macerator is over a grand new, and you can't really buy them used. that is more than everything i have spent so far. WAY more.

that is why we are putting the urinal in for now. we ran all the pipes for the toilette, but the pump is going to take a while to save for. usually i have male roomies and they can go into the church for that once or twice a day time, but be able to use the urinal otherwise. especially in the middle of the night. the church gets really cold at night, and you have to walk up some cold stairs from the basement to get there.

fake chat

there is something strange going on around here, and i suspect it may not be just innocent computer error. whenever i come here to check my blog, the number of chatters shown on the main menu board in '( )' is usually high. at one point last night it said (30). when i go to the chat rooms, the number suddenly is reduced drastically. in the case of the (30), when i got to the chat rooms there was (3).

this is not an error, i believe it is an intentional lie! they are trying to lure me into the chat room with thier fake statistics. this is not all. even when there ARE a few chatters in a chat room, the menu bar always LIES about it anyways. the menu bar will show 5 or 6 chatters at any given time even though none of them have chatted there in days. probably weeks.

i believe this is all part of BC's plan to dump this site to the hightest bidder. i heard that so far, Rupert Murdoch has been putting in low ball bids. not only is the fake chat thing running rapant, but the blogs have been a TOTAL DISASTER lately. i post somnetimes and the post doesn't post until the next day. or sometimes, it just disappears all together. same thing with comments on blogs.

come on big church. there are idiots paying for this. you have to perform to professionally accepted standards. nobody is going to buy this place if it doesn't work.

Christian Rock Cover Band Wannabe Seeking Members

I have a regular place to practice with instruments and equipment, including microphones, P.A.s and digital recording. I have a 30 song wish list of good solid rock songs that happen to be about jesus. NOT the earwigs on Christian radio stations.

I put the ad above on craig’s list last night, and so far a drummer has responded. He is supposed to come for the open mic tonite. If nothing else this may help drum up some bodies for my Friday nites. Below is a partial list of Christian songs that really rock and want to cover:

Ball & Chain (Mike Ness), Sugar Rush, Lions (lost & fond), psychedelic super jesus, you wanted me, bombs over broadway, failed Christian, double cure, you call yourself a Christian (stone soul foundation), catholic girls (frank zappa), holy rolling hot rod, the myspace song (good clean fun), spaceman (bride), I walk the line (Johnny cash), spirit in the sky, war going on (todd agnew), the worm, out of my mind (gs megaphone), I don’t care (donnas), don’t gotta prove it, help me out god (superchick), I’m not the king (audio adrenaline), tomorrow never comes, runaway train (GKBand), charles in charge, 2 sets of joneses (big tent), some things never change (bride).

there are a LOT of other straight up secular songs that are, or can be seen as being, about the gospel like alice cooper's nothing free, or dylan's knocking on heaven's door. there is probably not a HUGE market for this kind of band, but there are currently NONE like this that i know of and i KNOW we can play at my church and a few other churches around here. what i am really hoping for is a house band for god's garage that plays every friday nite until open mic people show up.

i posted this earlier but it disappeared?

i have finished putting the pop can solar furnaces in all the windows of the church. i put bigger ones in the center and they are pumping out more heat. i have a thermometoer that records the max and min temps, and i have gotten readings of 140+ on top of the biggest one.

it seems like the lows are not as low as they could be either. none of which means diddly unless it is heating the room, which it is doing pretty well when the sun is shining. when there is no sun though, there is no heat.

i also did everything i could think of to better insulate. besides teh double doors, which really has helped, the carpet which is helping a lot too, i have put cardboard and dry wall around the outside walls and styrofoam under the pews that are against outside walls. it is keeping the sound from the street out more and the heat is staying longer.

god provides.
