too many people

there are just too many people in this country for it to be possible to treat everyone with the respect they deserve as a human being any more. the very social institutions we have developed to serve the public are no longer able to consistantly do what they are supposed to do. a small percentage of the public has always been spit out by the system, but as our population grows, more and more people fall through the cracks. the system just keeps doing what it has always done and the number of people it grinds to a pulp keeps growing and growing. there are just too many people.

i don't want to dote on all the horrible individual things the system has put me or mine through because of this problem. my point is that our social SYSTEMS (government, justice, law enforecemnt, postal delivery, fire, etc.) have become not only inefficient and ineffective, they are becoming detrimental to human integrity. we are just numbers already. the system is not able to afford human dignity anymore. there are just too many people.

straighten up and fly right. toe the line. don't make waves. human beings that are not able to dot every 'i' and cross every 't,' or don't want to, have no place in this system. there isn't time or resources. if you do everything in the exact same manner as everyone else, which we will spoon feed you, you may have a small chance of not getting run over by the system. if you stand out, or delay, or have other needs, the system is going to crush you. it isn't cruelty or purposeful, there are just too many people. there is no room for individuality when the system is supposed to support everybody. there are just too many people.

This is a nation-wide phenomenom, but chicago is a microcosm magnification of the problem. police and postal organizations are corrupt and incompitant and further taxed by the sheer numbers of citizens they 'serve.' the courts are backed up, overworked, and desperate to bring in fine money because the city is so broke. go downtown and take in a few traffic court cases and you will get a snapshot of how things work. or, more accurately don't work. there are just too many people, but if you fine them all that is a lot of money. everything in this town is like that.

since i mention traffic, lets look at this system a moment. traffic law is really a covenant between a municipality (chicago) and a driver. the driver agrees to surrender to the city's authority and laws, and the city agrees to provide safe roads and facilitate traffic. if a driver violates a traffic law, breaking this covenant, he is penalized. however, there is NO mechanism to penalize (or correct) the system when it breaks the covenant. Unrepaired potholes, untimed traffic lights, unattended traffic planning....and on an on. yet, this is status quo. NOBODY penalizes the city or even ever addresses these serious breaches of public trust. things just keep going on and on like this and get worse and worse. there are just too many people.

chicago traffic is just one of the myriad broken systems here. not even the worst. the above example is a good metaphor for the major problem with chicago social systems. they no longer adhere to the covenant they made with the public when they were established. they have broken the terms of the contracts they made to serve the citizens and don't even have those obligations on thier radar anymore.

the majority of governmental organizations in chicago function only to maintain thier own existance, NOT serve the public. add to that initiatives like the ones the last two mayors have backed, catering to the rich on the backs of the marginalized. people and thier complicated human needs and dignity become detrimental to these systems. govermental systems see individuality as obstacles that need be removed. there are just too many people. chicago looks at all those people and just sees all that money. its systems function almost uniformly to extract money from all those people. 'serving' people is not even a byproduct anymore. this city only serves itself.

ok. i actually read the docs for wordpress. man i HATE following instructions.

i was hoping that i could set up a portal that people could register their own accounts, like this place works. but NO. it works the same way as adding users to a windows network, the admin has to do it. so anyone blogging at godsgarage (org) will hafta get me the information on this screen and trust me with it.

i know, that is kind of lame, but that is how it works. i hafta set up the accounts, but then you can sign in and out and use them

ANYONE THAT READ THIS PLEASE DISREGARD!!t

i found some open source free social networking programs that will do blogs and chat and have a registration portal. i just tried to install the one that my website offers and it bombed twice.

i will report back with more info.

***INTERMIN REPORT***

i downloaded someting called xoops that is like a big multi portal that has modules for chat and blogs. i was reading the instructions and i have to learn what the heck PhP and SqL is, and then i have to do stuff on my site.

man, i HATE following instructions

sojo is the only one that likes these this old house posts and he is banned from this blog

these are the shevles i made in the garage attic trying to clean up all the mess of storage and tools it has been up there. i have a friend that was considering renting the space for a tool rental business, and this was also a ploy to make the space more usable.

the REALLY good thing about the shevling is that i arranged it so that it blocks two main roof trusses that are at head breaking heights.

i also hung up a guitar hook in the corner so i always have a guitar handy when i am sunning on the roof.

i have set up wordpress on the godsgarage (org) website and will be mirroring some of my blog posts there. this latest version offers the ability to allow multiple users. i have not figured out how to do this yet, but was wondering if anybody else was interested before i try to figure it out.

is anybody interested in keeping a blog on god's garage?

i am looking for godly insight, but also personal interest and reflection. blue hair would have been a good one, but she quit her blog. i feel like i have to let free come if she wants because i feel so sorry for her. sojo and 4nk8 are NOT invited. neither are gavin or otter.

ok ok. they can come if they want to. but they better straighten up and fly right.

except otter. may god bless him

****also**** i will be setting up a chatroom there soon.

the malvin report

i kind of don't want to paste pictures of malvin all over my blog the way i did with calvin. now it is SO sad to see the pictures of calvin.

nonetheless, malvin is just TOO cute and i HAVE to post a few. i have done a collage here so as not to post SO many in quantity.

as you can see, malvin is having some difficulty filling calvin's shoes. EVERYTHING is too big for the little guy. i made most of this stuff for calvin after he was 3 or 4 months old, and malvin is still only 2 months.

here we see malvin sleeping in calvin's radio flyer bed and he is LOST in the stuffed monkeys. malvin loves all the monkeys as much as calvin did. i taught them both monkey aversion therapy. whenever they chewed or nibbled on ANYTHING they were not supposed to, i shove a stuffed monkey in thier mouth and shake it at them and tell them "bite the monkey, bite the monkey." it works pretty well, but i have a lot of monkeys with the stuffing ripped out. i have hundreds of them leftover from when my band the prayzmunkees broke up.

in the middle shot, we can see how HUGE calvin's crate is for malvin. he doesn't like it. he prefers the little orange backpack carrier. i let him curl up in the back pack and then i put him and it into the crate, and he likes that better.

hobbes did not like him at all when i brought him home. i had forgotten, but she was that way with calvin too. malvin is TOTALLY terrified of her and usually gives her a lot of space. in the last two pics, they are actually kind of playing. hobbes is just sitting there letting him go nutso, but they both are kind of enjoying it. he still keeps a lot of distance even though he acts tough.

i got my new band dogge pup tonite. he is great. he is named major calvin, for major tom (a family that lived 17 years with my ) and calvin. i will call him malvin (pronounced melvin).

we played until he literally passed out. it is funny he chose the same cat tree as calvin did. otherwise though, he is not so much like calvin. he is kind of like a little old man worried about everything. i got him to play for a while, he likes calvin's stuffed monkeys...but i think he really enjoyed checking out every inch of the basement more.

puppy potty

my new pup is coming home tonite. this has put a fire under me to complete the doggy doo disposal mechanism i had began when i first lost calvin in preparation of a new puppy.

i am not getting him until tonite, and i had "thought" i had up until then to finish. then i considered that all of the glue needed to be dry BEFORE he wet on it, and i lost a day to work on it. i finished up all last minute gluing early this morning and it is ready for the new puppy when he gets here.

i was initially going to paper train him in the house (as i did calvin) and then break him into this potty thing in the yard. i got to thinking about where i was going to start him out in the house and decided to do the same thing i did with calvin. pull up all the rugs and put him in the basement until he learns to curb himself. the floor is all concrete and can take a lot of abuse. i also have floor drains there.

then i thought of STARTING him out ON the pupp pot in the basement. i can just pipe it to a floor drain. then, when he knows how to use the thing and we start going out into the yard, i will bring it he will already be trained to use it.

so i am hoping anyways.
