What's up with the pirate shirt and guyliner?

I have been asked what's up with the pirate shirt and eyeliner thing? Well I did a post eons ago about it but I am sure some of the newcomers here probably think I am a total nutjob posting about getting a guy in a pirate shirt and guyliner.

Now I am not debating my sanity or lack thereof. I prefer to consider myself eccentric, by the way. (I don't care what the voices think! LOL )

In a nutshell, nearly every man I have been in a relationship with or dated for any length of time has hinted, suggested or begged me to get into some kinky costume. Keep in mind, I came to Christ in my 30s when my was five. I have had ONE serious Christian relationship since I came to Christ (and none before) and I haven't dated in years now.

So I figure if a man wants me to dress up like a cheerleader or french maid then he should be willing to compromise by wearing the pirate shirt and guyliner.

While Johnny Depp has been extremely cute in a weirdo offbeat way in the pirate movies, it's not about him or even the pirate shirt but the willingness to compromise to work things out as a couple and actually listen to each other.

Now, after several years, I truly think that I am supposed to be single... I "do" single well and I don't date well so the whole pirate shirt and guyliner thing is mostly a joke.

There are advantages to being single! I get to take my half of bed out of the middle and I get all the covers. I have complete control of the thermostat and the only person who wakes me up snoring is me!! The list goes on!

In fact, if I am ever going to remarry again, the guy better wear a pirate shirt and guyliner because I wouldn't recognise Mr. Right if God placed him knocking on my door. I'd think he was another security salesman and tell him to get lost!!

Some of you may remember Roberta who used to blog here under the name of Robin. Over the years, Roberta has become a very close friend of mine. She and her sons have frequently come down for weekends at my house once she moved to Texas a couple of years ago. I call my spare bedroom Roberta's bedroom.

Last night her Joshua who is two weeks younger than my punkenstein borrowed her car to drop off a friend at a convenience store. A man attempted to carjack him by punching him repeatedly in the face with a concrete brick.

Josh was brutally assaulted in the attack but somehow was able to drive away and get to the ER. By the time he got there, he was drenched in his own blood and fully in shock. His face is basically crushed.

Please lift up Josh and his family during this difficult recovery. Praise God that he is still alive.

Roberta was recently laid off from her job so they do not have insurance right now. My heart aches for my friend who so loves her . She has faced many trials as of late as God perfects her faith and builds her endurance.

Please pray that God will turn the bad to good with His unique healing, peace, comfort and provision for His glory according to His will and timing.

Thank you!

Ketchup, Catsup, Catch Up - The Birthday Week Edition

This past week, my second week back at work, has been a whirlwind. And smack dab in the midst of it was my 46th birthday.

I worked a lot of hours this week but got a lot accomplished as well. I squeezed five days of work into four loooong days since we are given one day off for our birthdays at my job.

Since my birthday fell on Monday which is a heavy processing day for payroll, I couldn't take it off but the boss gave me Thursday instead. It turned out much better anyway because large storms came in on Thursday, flooding the southside of town in places. Meanwhile, I stayed in my pajamas all day and off the freeways! What a blessing!

Last Sunday, my mom invited Jacob and I to dinner for my birthday. Jake barbecued chicken on the grill. I racked up a phone card for my pass-as-you-go emergency only cell phone from my parents.

Have you tried to find a pay phone anymore? And if you did, how much did it cost you? Remember when it used to be a dime... or a quarter tops!?! I digress...

Jacob gave me a new pair of houseslippers. They are fuzzy and purple. I love them. The punkenstein did good!

Usually I spend my birthdays depressed. I get way over analytical and start comparing my life with some over the top world view of lofty standards that few can reach. I begin focussing on my failures and regrets instead of my blessings.

But not this year! I was on my back porch late Monday night when I realized that here it was my 46th birthday and I am sitting alone on my backporch of my mobile home talking to four feral kittens that adopted us a few months ago.

And I started thinking... Why does that sound like a bad thing? I was at peace. I have my own home. My is doing well. I have a job when so many have none.

I have accomplished many things in my 46 years that others have only dreamt about. My journey has changed over the years but the journey continues and I am walking with Him.

There have been times that He fully carried me along that journey. But He got me through it. He continues to bless me with His forgiveness, mercy, and unconditional love... despite myself; despite who I have been; despite the mistakes I will make in the future.

God rocks and I actually had a very awesome birthday. In fact, on paper it doesn't look like much but this year ranks right up there with my sixth birthday when I received my first bike. Wow, that was 40 years ago!

Yeah, I'm older but I don't care. God is good and so my life.

Special Note: Thank you Brister Bate and everyone who wished me well on my birthday. I really do appreciate the warm wishes. I must have been so busy working that I didn't see all the pics of you men dressed in pirate outfits and guyliner for me.... ROFLOL

Schatzie/Hellen - I am sorry I suck at being a friend. I should call and write more often. You probably have no clue how much I respect you and what a difference you make in my life! Forgive me please for not being a better friend.

Godwhispers/Priscilla - I had a great time talking to you on the phone. I tried to call you back but it kept going to voice mail so I gave up. Sorry. Forgive me please!

Yendor/Rod - I haven't been able to find a banana suit yet but when I do, I am holding you to our agreement! I know you are busy and probably will never read this but I miss your sense of humor on the blogs.

Firestarter/Suzanne - You posted on my blog not long ago something about how the angels have to publish our desires along the lines of having . Could you please give me scriptures on this? I have heard this before from others but don't know where it is found in the Bible. Thanks!

JustMe - I can't find where you told me your email addy. I should have written then. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I do wish to stay in touch.

Izzy - Thank you for being a peacemaker and encourager here at the blogs. When I first met you, I wanted so badly to not like you but His light shines so brightly through you that I just couldn't not like you.

Jeremaiah - Jesus never defended himself and you don't have to either.

I want to thank everyone who has been praying for me. I just got off the phone with my doctor and my latest lab reports have come back. She is releasing me to go back to work on Monday!

Wooo Hoooo Thank You Jesus!

I have been off work since mid July, surviving on only a portion of my salary along with God's unique provision and the help of my parents who could only help me so much as they are also strapped financially.

If I didn't get released for Monday, I would be so behind on my house payments that I would probably lose my home. But God always comes through at the precisely right time!

I never thought I would be so happy to return to a job that I hate. But I love my and I love my home so I will continue to consider myself blessed to still have a job.

And I am just so thankful to God to have it all!

Watch out Houston freeways, come Monday, I will be ready to tackle that two hour drive to work. Clear that far left lane because here I come!

Praise God to the highest!!!

Deal Breakers

We all have our boundaries as well as our personal tastes and dislikes. What may be okay for an acquaintance may not be okay in a close friend and what may be okay for a quick one time coffee date may not be okay for a marriage partner.

I guess what I am trying to say is that there are things that are allowable but not when it comes to a close personal relationship.

For instance, if someone is not a Christian... I'd still go to a friendly non-date lunch with them but I wouldn't marry them. That's one of my deal breakers.

If a man raises his hand to me... I'm out! Gone licketly split. Been there and done that. Abusiveness is a deal breaker.

Another deal breaker for me relates to . I have an 18 year old special needs punkenstein. A man that cannot accept my would be out.

In addition, any man who wants me to bear his ... nope not gonna happen. Even though physically I can still have , I believe my baby making days are in the past. So that would be a deal breaker for me.

Some deal breakers are little strange idiocyncracies we all have.

Anyone who clips their toenails at the kitchen table... ewwwwwwww... Don't be placing that big stinky foot on my dining room table....Deal breaker!!

So what are some of your deal breakers when it comes to serious long term relationships?

She threw the biggest fit!

My sister and her family came down this weekend for my sister's 20th class reunion. My nieces Kaili and Piper spent the weekend at Gram's so I was able to spend some time with them.

Kaili who is now six and in the first grade is the overachiever. She loves Karate and already knows which college she wants to attend. She can't wait to take Theatre Arts and Guitar in school. She likes to try everything. So far, she has taken classes in cheer, yoga, gymnastics, choir, dance, karate and golf. Just looking at that 's schedule makes me tired. But she wants to do it all!

My other niece, Piper is two and this weekend, her main goal seemed to be underfoot in the kitchen as my and Pop (grandpa) tried to cook brunch. Piper threw the biggest fit. She was crying and screaming, stomping her feet and kicking. She was not a happy camper. Did I mention she is now 2!

It was great!!!

Now having a screaming little one around going through the terrible twos may not be a blessing for some but it sure was for us this weekend.

You see, Piper was born with St. George's Syndrome. When she was just a day old she underwent her first heart surgery. Her heart was barely the size of a cherry tomato at the time.

She has since underwent additional heart surgeries. And yes, she has some development delays in many areas including speech.

So to see her try to get into everything and then throw a big old hissy fit because she wasn't allowed to be underfoot where she would get hurt is a tremendous blessing to us.

Piper was being a typical two-year-old this weekend. She was doing exactly what any other two-year-old would do. And to see her walking, screaming, kicking, etc... well I couldn't have wished for anything better! Who knew such a hissy fit could be so satifying.

Thank you Jesus! Thank you for continuing to heal and walk with my precious little niece!

I am so thankful that God has blessed me with two very special little girls in my life. Uniquely created, uniquely loved, uniquely themselves! I couldn't be more blessed!

Tell me one thing about yourself that you normally don't tell people about...

I'll even go first...

When I was young, I wanted to be the next Olga Corbett. I would cartwheel and handspring everywhere.

Your turn...

I was looking at the strawberries in the produce section of the grocery store this morning when this young lady came up to me. I am guessing she was in her early 20s.

She said that I reminded her of her mother who had passed away a couple of years ago. She said not only did I look like her mom but my mannerisms were just like hers. I could see her eyes get a bit teary as she spoke of her mom.

We spoke for a couple of minutes and went separately on with our shopping. We passed each other on the baking aisle. She smiled and said, "Hi Mom!" I responded, "Hi" back to her.

Same thing happened in the frozen foods section.

I ended up right behind her in the check out line. We spoke some brief chit chat until it was her turn to put her items on the conveyor belt.

As the checker was finishing ringing her up, I began to put my items on the belt, not really paying attention to her conversation with the checker.

I was getting a 12 pack of diet soda out of the bottom of my cart when I turned around and saw her standing there. After I placed the soda on the belt, she gave me a big hug and said, "Thanks Mom!"

I replied with a "God bless you" and I finished putting my remaining items on the conveyor belt.

I stepped up to the checker area and noticed that although only a few of my items had been rung up, the bill was already $237.00!!

I looked at the computer screen again and told the checker to stop. I asked why is my bill so high already when she had only rang up about $25 worth of food.

The checker told me that my had said I would pay her bill and the checker pointed to the young lady leaving the store.

I couldn't believe it!

I told the checker, "Woah, she is not my and I'm not paying for her groceries."

The bag boy started after the woman as the checker got on her mic to request security. Now with the bag boy, one security guy, the checker and myself running after her, the young woman tipped over her cart right in the street in front of the store.

Groceries went everywhere... Canned goods rolling around.

The bag boy leaped over the groceries and caught up to the woman just as she was getting into her car. He was able to grab one of her legs before she got the door closed and he started pulling her leg just like I am pulling yours!
