We All Make Mistakes

"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing."
-- George Bernard Shaw

Berating yourself for past mistakes is like heaping hot coals upon your head. Letting go, not beating yourself up, can be the hardest thing in life.

Take a moment to love yourself as you are, warts and all. Then take a deep breath and exhale self-recrimination. Accept your mistakes as opportunities for growth along your journey. Mistakes are not your destination, but merely stepping stones.

I've often pondered that my marriage to the "Toad of Darkness" was a huge mistake. However, without it I would not have had the chance to travel the world, get two degrees, and learn to stand on my own two feet when things are at their worst.

I thank God for the experiences, both good and bad, because they've made me the writer, the friend, the lover, the Christian that I am today. Without the darkness, I'd never have discovered my true self.

Hi Meow and Blue. Yes, I spent years beating myself up, too, about my role in my failed marriage. If I'd been a stronger Christian, if I'd pressed him into being a Christian, and on and on. That I wasn't and didn't, has been a bitter pill for me, but learning not to beat myself up has brought me peace and closure. Thank God!
