Meet the Cats on the Rock, Part 3

Meet Benjamin Lafayette Sisko. Yes, you guessed it. . .he's named after a Star Trek character.

Nearly three years ago, "Amos" was left, taped inside a box, at a kill shelter in Snohomish, WA. The shelter workers were so taken with him, and knowing he had only three days to live if he wasn't placed with a home, they cast a wide net to no-kill shelters around the state. Even WAIF didn't have room for this cheerful, 20-pound red and white tabby. Luckily Oasis, a small shelter in Langley, did and his life was saved.

Having recently lost my beloved red tabby, Lucas, to cancer, seeing Benny's photos melted my heart. Hearing his story convinced me he was the perfect addition to my cat family. Curzon and Kira had been grieving the loss of Lucas as well and they welcomed Benny with open hearts and plenty of headbonks.

Benny is a gentle old soul with very expressive green eyes and a high-pitched, trilling meow. He was sadly quite overweight when I brought him home, and seems determined to stay that way despite a strict diet. From his pigeon front toes and bowed rear legs, I'm sure he's been overweight his entire life. He is older than the vet originally guessed, at around 12 years.

Benny's proven to me everyday, he was well worth the rescuing with his unending displays of love. Whoever said that older cats make the best pets, knew exactly what they were talking about!

Hi Gavin! I have a friend who had a big white cat named Yoda. Great cat. The best cat I ever owned was named Chani, after a character from Frank Herbert's novel, "Dune." I'm forever naming my cats after sci-fi characters. lol
