Those were the days

Schwin bicycles with cards in the spokes, the old corner store for candy and cokes.Clackers are heard on every street, the old vintage bike with the banana seat.Atari was in,ping pong the new fad, paper kite flying with Katey and Brad.Pet rocks were cool, mood rings were hot, just what they meant, the consuming thought. The bird on the cup drinking both night and day,the green troll was rubbed for luck everyday.Walkmans were huge while looking bizarre, bobbing head on dash of the car.Road Runner Bugs Bunny the favorite cartoons, the old pirate map promised dubloons.Rudolph the reindeer was always a treat,Burl Ives the Snowman just couldnt be beat.Collect all the cool hot wheels until theres a set, favorite of all the mint green corvette.Encyclopedias and dictionarys too, looking it up for homework to do.Fighting was limited to right after school, occasional blackeye was coveted and cool.Spinning the bottle always brought fear, results kept quiet so no one would hear.Skates were metal requiring a key, falling was painful for hand and for knee.BB gun shooting was always a blast, till neighbor came over with all of the glass.

I like it - Lots of great memories packed in there. I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty but here is what I was talking about the other night... Making your prose more eye friendly... eye candy so to speak... It will also help readers get the cadence of your words....

Schwin bicycles
with cards in the spokes,
the old corner store
for candy and cokes.

Clackers are heard
on every street,
the old vintage bike
with the banana seat.

Atari was in,
ping pong the new fad,
paper kite flying
with Katey and Brad.

Pet rocks were cool,
mood rings were hot,
just what they meant,
the consuming thought.

The bird on the cup
drinking both night and day,
the green troll was rubbed
for luck everyday.

Walkmans were huge
while looking bizarre,
bobbing head dog
on dash of the car.

Road Runner, Bugs Bunny,
the favorite cartoons,
the old pirate map
promised dubloons.

Rudolph the reindeer
was always a treat,
Burl Ives the Snowman
just couldnt be beat.

Collect all the cool hot wheels
until theres a set,
favorite of all...
the mint green corvette.

Encyclopedias
and dictionaries too,
looking it up
for homework to do.

Fighting was limited
to right after school,
occasional black eye
was coveted and cool.

Spinning the bottle
always brought fear,
results kept quiet
so no one would hear.

Skates were metal
requiring a key,
falling was painful
for hand and for knee.

BB gun shooting
was always a blast,
till neighbor came over
with all of the glass.

Good post Greeneyes. I really relate to the falling down on the skates part! God bless you!

Greeneyes, writing is an awesome form of expression. In fact, I think I communicate much clearer in the written sense over verbalization in some matters. And to me, it frees the soul in a way, like a release. I can't live without it and have been writing in some form since I was a young child. Lots of people also write out their prayers and pray them as they write them out. Keep writing!! God bless ya.
