What is the third heaven ? and how many heavens are there in the Bible? It was said about Enoch that he ascended to heaven ( Gen.5:24) and the same was said about Elijah the prophet ( 2Kings 2:11). St. Paul also said that he was caught up to the third heaven , whether in the body or out of the body , he did not know ( 2Co 12:2) How then did our Lord Jesus Christ say to Nicodemus : " No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven , that is the of Man that is in heaven " ( Jn 3:13) Did not Enoch and Elijah ascend to heaven ? Also , what is the third heaven ? and how many heavens are there in tBible ? Any Comment ? Reply ? |

The "third heaven" comes in the Bible as a name of Paradise ( 2Cor.12:2,4 ) The 'Highest heavens' mentioned in ( Ps.148:4 ) and it is higher than the third. This is the heaven which is the Throne of God. (Jn.3:13 ) , (Mt.5:34 ) This is the heaven to which only the Lord Jesus Christ has ascended , and to which no human being will ever rise. (Jn.3:13 )

The heaven that the Lord Jesus Christ descended from and again ascended to is not the same heaven that Enoch and Elijah ascended to.......... It is called the heaven of heavens , is above and beyond all heavens It is the heaven wher the throne of God is This heaven of heavens , no human has ascended to. The Lord alone came down from it and again ascended to it. Proverbs say; " Who has ascended into heaven ,or descended ?......What is His name , and what is His Son's name , if you know ? " ( Proverbs 30:4 )

The heavens that we know of , which the Bible mentioned are : 1. The heavens of the birds: The heaven where birds fly, the atmosphere that around us . The Bible mentions the birds of the air ( Gen.1:26 ) and ( Gen.7:3 ). This heaven has the clouds which carry rain ( Gen.8:2 )

2.The second heaven is higher than the heaven of the birds. The Firmament as it was called by God (Gen.1:8 ) It is the heaven of the stars and the moon The Firmament. and God called the firmament Heaven.

3. The third heaven , is Paradise. That was he heaven that st. Paul ascended to . and said about himself : " Such a one was caught up to the third heaven.....he was caught up into Paradise " ( 2 Cor.12:2-4 ) It is the same heaven about which the Lord said to the thief on His right : " You will be with Me in paradise " ( Lk.23:43 ) It is the same place to which the Lord relocated the spirits of the righteous peope of the Old Testament who waited in the hope of salvation and to which the spirits of the righeous ascnd now.......till the Day of Resurrection when all will be moved to the heavenly Jerusalem. (Rev. )

4.The heaven of heavens , is above and beyond all previously mentioned heavens. The psalmist said about it : " praise Him , you heavens of heavens " ( Ps.184:4 ) This is the heaven about which the Lord said : " No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven , that is the Son of Man who is in heaven " ( Jn.3:13 ) It is the heaven where the throne of God is... All the heavens that himans have reached , are nothing compared to the heaven of heavens. Solomon the Wise mentioned it on the day he consecrated the temple. He said to the Lord in his prayer : " Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contin You " (1 Kgs8:27 ) This heaven of heavens , no human has ascended to. The Lord alone came down from it and again ascended to it .

All the heavens that humans have reached , are nothing compared to the heaven of heavens. It is said about our Lord : " Has passed through the heavens " ( Hebrews 4:14 ) " And has become higher than the heavens " ( Hebrews 7:26 )

In creation there are two heavens: The space from the ground to where the atmosphere ends. The space where the planets and stars abide. Third heaven is not a place but a Person. God cannot create anything that possesses His attributes. Example: God is Eternal. God cannot duplicate any attribute, in this case eternalness, in inanimate objects. Jesus said that where He is there we will be also. Jesus is in Trinity as He was before He took flesh upon Himself. Today, the Trinity is one-third glorified flesh. Since we are His Body, where His Body is there we will be. Biblically speaking of course. Enoch and Elijah are in the Garden of Eden where an angel prevents access and discovery. Until the curtain was torn there was no humans access to God. And still, without a Mediator, there is still no access to God. Two heavens in creation. Third heaven is a Person.
