Bob, I am quoting my Pastor here....so your "argument" is with him. When he said Joseph is a "type" of Christ, he did not mean EXACT COPY! But Joseph reflects a FACET of "Christ's likeness". A window, a picture, although obviously not the complete picture. There is only 1 Jesus!

QUESTION: "Why do BAD things happen to good people?"

ANSWER: There are no good people.

Romans 3:10-12..."As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one."

Jesus said:

Mark 10:18..."And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God."

But that's not the end of it. Christ in the believer makes him/her good. As a matter of pure Biblical doctrine we stand before a Holy God as His holy children by the atonement applied to us. The doctrine of imputation reveals that we have received God's righteousness and Jesus received our sin. He was the perfect sacrifice who was not only able, but He performed all that was necessary in the Law and under commandment of God so that the purpose and plan of God be fulfilled towards a people God would call out from the mass of humanity.

Bad things happen to people in general due to sin in the human race that is total. Blessing come from God as His reward. Curse come out of sin. And this is important.

    Quoting Cathoholic:
    Yet God called David a man after his own heart. So I guess a man after Gods own heart is a man who does not do any good.
The Word of God:

Mark 10:1 8..."And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God."

I will say the same as Jesus..."There is NONE good but ONE, that is, GOD."

According to this Word David, a man after God's own heart, falls short.

There is NONE good, but ONE, that is, GOD.

There are several instances where the Bible says some people are "good"...this is not how we are saved, for Jesus is the ONLY way, we cannot make ourselves "good" enough to enter heaven....but as believers we are to listen to the Lord and follow His ways and do "good works" just like Jesus, this is His will for our lives. Joseph was faithful to God for he was falsely accused of , yet thrown i nprison...and remained faithful to the Lord, so even though he was doing "good works" sometimes bad things can happen to "good" people, and it is all part of God's plan.

Mat 5:45 so that you may become sons of your Father in Heaven. Because He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and unjust.

Mat 12:35 The good man out of the good treasure of the heart puts forth good things. And the evil man out of the evil treasure puts forth evil things.

2Co 9:8 And God is able to make all grace to abound toward you, that in everything, always having all self sufficiency, you may abound to every good work;

Mar 14:6 But Jesus said, Let her alone. Why do you cause her troubles? She worked a good work toward Me.
