Jesus, a celebrity?

I had the funniest thought today. In our world of celebrity stars and how they live, the pressures that they are under as far as lack of privacy is concerned, the attention they get where ever they go... we believe this to be a modern day occurance.

I suddenly thought of Jesus. Was Jesus maybe the first celebrity? For example... celebrities arrive in their limos amidst great cheering from a crowd... Jesus arrived on the latest out of the box model, so to speak donkey colt... amidst a crowd who waved madly and cheered!!!

The celebrity gets to have a red carpet... in Jesus' day they were more environmentally friendly... so he had a palm tree carpet to ride on...

The celebrity gets good publicity when they join a cause and throw down the status quo... animal rightists and such... Jesus destroyed the temple animal market... scattering birds, sheep, goats and the like, releasing them from the death sentence... the authorities sat up and took notice!

The celebrity has many people who do all the assistant type jobs for them. Jesus had a group of 12 men and then a couple of women who took care of his needs.

The celebrity sometimes sends a representative to stand in for them when they can't make a function. Jesus sent out his 12 representatives to the various towns, later he increased this to 70.

The celebrity is constantly harassed when in public where people are always asking them for something... Jesus had to have the disciples around him to keep the crowd at bay and still a woman managed to touch him and received what she needed.

The celebrity will be hounded wherever they go and people go to great lengths to reach them. Jesus was trapped in a house and some fanatics opened the roof to get his attention for their friend.

The celebrity often has to spend hours speaking to the crowds with microphones and sound tech from a stage... Jesus used the environmentally friend acoustics of water, teaching from a boat(stage) to get his message across.

The celebrity knows that a crowd can turn nasty when they don't get what they want. Bad publicity can wreak their career. Jesus received some bad publicity and the crowd that had loved Him the one day turned against Him the next!

The celebrity often has an unknown hide away place to retreat to and Jesus often withdrew from the crowds into the quiet places with His disciples... but like the celebrity the people hunted until they found him...

Oh and the celebrity is normally a household name... books are written about them... Jesus is a household name... either you love Him or you hate Him... but His name is always spoken with one emotion or the other. Books innumerable have been written about Him.

So there you have it evidence of Jesus being one of the first celebrities!! (Hope you enjoyed this tongue in cheek look at the celebrity life of Jesus!)

Blessings always

Jesus is worthy of being celebrated.

It is called praise and worship.

His resurrection is His ascension to the Davidic throne.

When He returns He will put down all rule and authority, subdue His Church, and rule with a rod of iron.

And I will celebrate.

Do you agree?

Hi there

I agree that Jesus will return and that He is worthy of being celebrated. My comparison was not meant to cause disrepect, but to show a lighter side to Jesus' ministry. He will rule and He already rules at the right hand of the Father. I believe He will still retain the characteristics of the Saviour King. God does not change, He remains the same. Jesus showed compassion and loving kindness. Gentleness is the strongest force on earth, because it gets through to even the hardest people. "Learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart" (Jesus)

That is how I know my Father. He is extravagant and pours His love on me. I love because He first loved me.

Blessings always.
