The difference between purchased accounts and accounts on retainer

When dealing with a collection agencies, law office or law firm it is good to know who owns your debt. You can get this information by pulling your credit report or asking the collector. The better option by far is to research it yourself as unfortunately the collector may lie. If the debt is purchased you will be able to get a much better deal if you are trying to settle. If it is on retainer from the original creditor the agency will have strict guidelines they have to stay in.
