Ladies, Be Careful What You Ask For...

Well, now I've done it.

I prayed, and I prayed carefully:

"Dear Lord, you know I need a guy. I'd like someone who's never been married, or at least has no strings attached to former loves. Someone without , so his devotion will be centered on You, and then me. Someone who is a Christian. He can be white, mixed, whatever. Just let me know he's the one. Thanks, Love Elizabeth."

Okay, so time goes by.

I get my first apartment after having overcome a load of recovery issues. I am no longer in emotional pain; perhaps I'm ready for Mister Right.

Returning from a friend's house one sunny autumn day about a year ago, I innocently pull over for an interesting-looking yard sale. I rummage around, then begin speaking to the fellow holding the sale. He was very pleasant, says his girlfriend and he broke up (Ooh, single!).

We spoke a while longer, exchanging pleasantries. By the time I drove away, it was a done deal. I had me a guy, and he was seated beside me on the passenger seat, looking so lonely and nervous.

I was nervous as well. This was the first time I'd ever done something like this--here I am taking him home with me! I am a Christian woman living in a small town!

I decided to risk it. Yes, I'd have to move from my small apartment. Yes, people would probably talk, but I'm used to that; that's life. No risk, no reward, is what I always say, and surely he'll improve with time.

Well, the match has lasted. I find that we are more alike than I ever imagined. He no longer runs around, and when he occasionally stays out, he always returns looking very apologetic. I admit, he doesn't have a job, but he doesn't mind leftovers, doesn't need fancy clothes, doesn't ask for much, so who can complain, with all the love he gives? Besides that, he comes from a large family, where I doubt he got much of an education. His father left before he was born.

He's like me in so many ways: when he tries to hurry, he runs into things. He leaves his stuff lying around. He can be rather loud, and he loves company. I just have to forgive him for his shortcomings.

Yet, despite my happiness and the compromises I've made, I'm telling you, ladies, you have GOT to be very specific in your prayers!

Yes, he was single. Yes, he's white, no strings attached, no , etcetera, etcetera.

But if you ever, EVER, meet a short, quiet, bearded
guy who swears to you that he's a lifelong
Presbyterrier, you might want to pray on it a while!

I am thinking, what the heck, she took the man away from his sale??? WOW!! She's good!! OH MY!!!

Then, I had to back track and re-read and then spotted the picture on the bottom!!

You ARE good girl!!!!!!!!!!! ^5 to you!!

And, you got such a phenominal deal- HE'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. What eyes, love that ear!! And you can never match the unconditional love of a DOG.

There is no coincidence that DOG spelled backwards is GOD!!!!!

LOVE THAT SHORTY GUY OF YOURS!!!! WHAT A KEEPER!!!!

I'd say that he is one lucky dog!!! A match made in heaven for sure!!

Well, it has been a great surprise to me as well, since I don't even LIKE DOGS!! (Shh, Shorty doesn't think he is a d-o-g...)

He is the "man" God used to get me a wonderful little rental bungalow on a teeny tiny budget. THere's no WAY I could afford this place, but the owners dropped the rent about a zillion dollars BECAUSE THEY LOVE DOGS (And you-know-who is a d-o-g...).

During my time here, I have been able to take in several people with no homes, one who is taking chemo, the other a trauma survivor. Details: My sister just finished chemo and I've been unable to see her very often; Dorothy needs a sister, and is a lovely addition to my little Family. I am in training to become a trauma counselor, and Caleb had nowhere to go, as well as the sad fact that there are no qualified trauma counselors anywhere near. So we adopted a "such as I have give I thee" approach, and GOD IS DOING HIS THING and Caleb is really much more stable and Dorothy's tumor HAS BEEN SHRINKING after only 2 chemo treatments! Yeay, God.

People have brought us food, we get clothing from the street ministry, someone helped me get a little freezer...awesome awesome.

Shorty, too, is a rescued dog, was obviously neglected and scared of everything. He is always right at my feet, scrappy little wire-haired critter!

Anyway, God answered that prayer--the one I didn't even know to PRAY --and He really knew what He was up to, now didn't He?!

Next post, I'll have to share some Shorty jokes (He thinks they're funny!)

Blessings on Your Life,
Elizabeth

P.S. - Sometimes God has a sense of humor though. I remember saying, "Lord, wherever I am supposed to be this year at school, that's where you want me." You see I was the only one at school that didn't find out my assignment and placement until school started. I wanted it to be led by HIM where I was supposed to work each year. The Principal always appreciated my flexibility and I ALWAYS got the best assignments each year!!

However, I never knew the word "no" and anything I was given, I was always up for the challenge. It's just that I always knew I didn't want to be one-on-one with a special needs child and never with an autistic child. Soooooooooooooooooo, guess what I got added to tons of other responsibilities........ (Was an Early Identifier and Behavior Specialist) They placed me with One-on-one with an Autistic Child. HA!!!!!! Figures! I knew him since he was 3 and worked with him until he left us at 5 but he came back at age 7 and that's when I got him. Consolation, I knew the boy well, sooooooooo, guess I was the best choice when I thought about it.

Ok, Lord, I am going to trust you AND TRUST I DID, I would not be in the position I am now. I would not be as close again to God and this deep in faith if it not for that assignment. I would not have ever found Big Church. I would not have found Brad, my fiance with whom I found here. (Big chunk of story not sharing now - I'll share another time with you)

GOD SURE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING.

Sometimes, HE takes you "out of the box" to prove HE is God and knows the plans and direction HE is pointing you in.

He knows you better than you know yourself and HE proves that HE has faith in you even when you don't have faith in yourself.

Yes, Miss Jersey Girl 2008! Yes! I am thrilled to hear that you are in a happy relationship--and to think that you met right here.

Whaddaya know! I thought this was the place where we:

a. Saw other gals' photos, and decided we were homely.
b. Talked to God about it, and decided we were beautiful.
c. Winked at guys who didn't wink back, and decided we were homely.
d. Talked to God about it, and decided we were beautiful, but a little bit vain.
e. Winked at guys who winked back at us, and decided we weren't ready for a relationship.
f. Talked to God about it...

Something like that!

Love hearing from ya,

Elizabeth
