THE WHALING WAR FOR THE SOUTHERN OCEANS.

Ok before i start i need to tell you a little about what has been going on right here within New Zealand's borders over the problems we are having with Japan and the conflict with between Green peace and how it has climaxed to a point where is is now becoming a political conflict between New Zealand ,Australia and Japan.
Over the years New Zealand and Japan have had a treaty with fishing rights in and around it's ocean fishing Zones.
Our fishing zone is 200km and Japan has not been happy with that, they want the right to send their fishing vessels into New Zealand waters and fish to whatever quantity and variety of fish they like.
Lobster,Sea Egg or commonly known as kinner, Shell fish such as Mussels and Paua, the paua has an oval shaped shell about the size of your hand if stretched out, The local fisheries authority has a size limit and also a limit on volume , or quota as well, this applies to both recreational and commercial use as well, and it is there for the protection of these sea animals so we can continue to have them for our generation and the generations to come as well.
Ever since the New Zealand government said no to Japan taking and harvesting them from out coastlines they have opted for taking illegally by employing organizer crime syndicates to do the harvesting for them and to date some 3000 tons of Paua have been stolen from our coastlines by Japan in just 2009 only, this year it will be considerably less because some of the criminals are now behind bars.
People who are caught risk having their home, boat, car and all their tools confiscated and are hit with a $100,000 fine. that is if they are seen to be taking for commercial gain. Japan has been behind all the commercial poaching in and around our coastal fishing.
What the news Media is telling you is not all the truth, New Zealand has not just decided one day just to harass Japans fishing fleets just for the sake of it, They are also trying to hit our Blue Fin Tuna stocks in the Tasman sea as well.
Japan has also just recently also been hitting our inland fishing as well with our Salmon stocks and brown and rainbow trouts.
It is illegal here for our inland fishing to be used for commercial use and most areas here are subject to seasonal fishing only.
The level of tension between Japan, New Zealand and Australia is growing rapidly by the day.
Japan had just stated this week that if their whaling fleets are harassed this coming 2010 season then they will be sending their coast guard gun boat to ATTACK,,AND DESTROY,,CIVILIAN VESSELS,
This to us will be an act of war against the people of Australia and New Zealand.
This what i have told you and more is the truth that you have not herd and is why we down here are beyond frustration with Japan over their thinking they can just come down here and take what they want.
I have ran out of time here to give you exact data on quotas and volumes but will later.

A number of years back, back in 96 i was with a friend surf casting at the southern end of Napier, it was about 3pm, we had seen what we thought was a small fishing boat and as we got closer we realized it was not all that small after all, infact it was not one of our own.
I turned to Peter and was just about to comment when the boat turned and went right into the breakers and began to lower its nets, There was a man at the front who grabbed our lines and cut them with a knife and was speaking out loud to the man in the wheel house in Japanese, as was the rest of what looked like a 5 man crew.
Pete was really wild and began to pick up rocks and hurl them at the man in the front and hit him in the head, i picked up a large stone and hurled it and it went right through the glass window of the wheel house.
They began to turn at that point and head out a short was so we could no longer reach with our missiles but not before landing a fer more through the windows, one man at the back appeared with a shotgun in hand and began firing at us so we had to run for cover, one shot just narrowly missed my right leg and the other 4 landed on the beach just behind us.
We reported it to the coast guard or port authorities but by the time the report went through and somebody got there they were long gone as we had to drive nearly 20km to get to napier as well.
Most of our coastlines around here are nearly impossible to con troll because of how rugged they are, especially in the south with the rugged steep coastlines of Fiordland where the mountains just drop steeply into the deep fiord's.
So by the time anybody can get around there they are well out of the legal zones again.
Our dolphin numbers have dropped dramatically in the past 10years, with the blue nose, hector, and grey. each season now we only see a small amount compared to the thousands we used to see in and around our waters,,,you guessed it,,,Japan, The blue seal depends on krill for its survival and up until 2004 the waters in and around the marlborough sounds would be red for miles around, as far as the eye could see, i haven't seen any krill for the past 4 years now and the blue seal colony near Wellington has dropped from over 400 to just below 200, some others are just not there anymore.
See the real problem we are seeing with Japan hunting the whales is they are not just sticking to hunting just the Minke whale but they don't, the latest photos from the footage that Green peace have taken from their helicopter shows the severed heads of two hump backed whales and one blue whale, what happens is when they are chasing the guy at the harpoon fails to identify his target very well and shoots at just anything and so by the time they realize their mistake it is too late so they have to pull it in then , you can tell one whale from another by its water spout, and the fact that you just need to look as well.
And yet most of the whales that they are pulling in are too young and even mature adults are still bearing unborn calves.

It is my belief that the reason or one of the reasons why we are seeing whale stranging's on our beaches each year are 3 reason's, (1),,the earths magnetic field is shifting and for most migratory creatures it adds stress on them.
(2),,it can be put down to ill health anyway.
and 3,,because of the way they other fish variate's are being fished out ,,mainly krill, which is a main food source for the Blue and hump backed whales, that they are running out of food and nature resorts to a form of population control, Earths oceans are being polluted more and more daily,,deep in the pacific trench they are finding human waste from rubbish being tossed overboard, the next whale that is stranded and dead on one of your local beaches,,whats the bet that it has a tin can lodged in its gut.

I wouldn't put it past Japan to do something like this. I'm unfamiliar with the political ties between the US and NZ if they are considered allies or not. And if they are I think they're also allies with Japan so it can be a sticky situation for everyone I think. I don't know if the US stepped in if Japan would listen to reason or not. I know barely anything about political stuff.

After a little research it looks like NZ has strong ties with the US. This is good because I think Australia does also.

Historically, New Zealand has maintained "excellent" relations with the United States on a broad number of international issues. President Obama reiterated this in 2009, saying that New Zealand and the United States had a very strong relationship and he wanted that relationship to be even better.

Both the United States and New Zealand share some common ancestry and history, having both been British colonies. Both countries had native peoples who were dispossessed of their land by the process of colonisation. Both have been part of the Western alliance of nations in various wars. There are numerous other similarities between the two countries.
