UPDATE on boyfriend

Hello everyone,

I wanted to thank everyone for keeping me and my boyfriend in their prayers. I also noticed that many wanted an update on how he is doing......thanks. Right now he is improving, but he was moved into a separate room in a different section of the hospital since he was infected, the doctors are treating him with antibiotics for MRSA. What happened was his pic line in his neck was really infected, and it was causing him much pain--unfortunately, he needed to wait until a surgeon was free to surgically remove it and at the time of my posting no one was available. One of his surgeons was home and couldn't sleep (shall I call it her conscience??) so she actually got up, went back to the hospital in the middle of the night to remove it herself, right there in his room. Thank God. His temperature went back down to a normal temperature by the next night. So he is improving.

A pressing request now is to be able to have the medical staff locate a good rehab facility for him, or some sort of aftercare, as the rehab center he was at last year (a highly reputable one at that) doesn't want him back. We are concerned about him being able to care for himself should the hospital want to release him this week. It is very sad that medical care should be this traumatizing and lacking after a high risk patient has to have surgery--we just want the best care to prevent anything else from happening to jeopardize his health and recovery.

Thanks to all and God bless.
Doree

WOW, MRSA is nothing to fool around with, my husband and niece had that and I know first hand how life threatening and serious it is. I will pray that you find a nursing home for the care he needs.

We just had to find one for my father and the first one was a nightmare and that came on a personal recommendation from a family friend. Then we were blessed with the second one that was absolutely amazing and wonderful, clean and caring. Just hand it up to God and then listen if you can to who comes your way and maybe you may be as lucky as we were to find such a wonderful place.

Making these decisions is never easy. Try not to worry, pray and let God take over. I know it's hard if things feel overburdened, everyone's tired and worry takes over. But please, try to realize there is nothing you can do to change the situation you are in. You are in it. Just try to clear yourself and place it in God's hands. Less control and more surrender. Not passive as far as the hospital staff. You must remain an advocate for the patient. But more of an inner peace within yourself about the situation and know God is in control.

Doree, this is my prayer for you. Being one that has walked through the trenches many, many times. More times than I care to ever say here, I have had to say this prayer myself. Over and over again. AND even when I knew better, I have had to say it even more. The physical exhaustion illness of any family member, even yourself can wear down your spritual side. Say this prayer with me please:

Lord, walk where I may. I will take your hand because it's more than I can handle now. I will trust in you in all ways without understanding and I will let your hand guide me in how I act, ract and handle the situations that lay at my feet. Let me be a vessel of peace in a difficult time. Let me be an example of your love God, in all ways and let everyone get through this stronger in your light than before. I know you have never deserted me Lord. You must be carrying me because I don't even know how I am standing. Thank you Lord, carry me though this until I can place my feet back on the ground. I am grateful that you never leave my side, even though sometimes I think you should. I owe you my life for always walking with me, believing in me and loving me. For I am nothing, not a single thing without you. AMEN

Stay blessed and of course keep updating us.

Will continue to pray,
Ginny

Doree, I will pray for you as well. I am a PA (physician assistant)...a social services counsult can be arranged by the nursing staff or your boyfriend's attending physician...they can take care of locating a good rehab facility...let them do the leg work for you and take some of the burden off. I am not sure of his underlying medical problems, except for the MRSA, but in the event an appropriate facility could not be located, would home health care be appropriate for him?
