Tears of a Clown

Smiling on the outside while the heart is crying on the inside is a hard task to achieve. Who said, "Love doesn't hurt?" Each time we step out of our comfort zone to embrace another human being, we are also taking a risk of experiencing pain and hurt. For some, the pain and hurt creates a strong defensive wall while for others it becomes a place of self-developing strength.

Defensive walls are created with the thought of protection, but the question is, "what are we protecting ourselves from?" If we are protecting the heart from people, we have managed to imprison ourselves from life. Instead of building walls, allow the pain and hurt to refine the soul like gold and silver in fire. The place to develop strength is in the fires of life and not hiding behind defensive walls. It isn't what happens to us that matters, but what we do with what happens.

Yes, smiling on the outside while the heart is crying on the inside is a hard task to achieve, especially behind defensive walls, but it can become a place of strength in the fires of life.
